Royals Rumors: Should KC Trade Luke Hochevar, Jeff Francoeur?

While he says that either starting pitcher Luke Hochevar or outfielder Jeff Francoeur could be traded this offseason, Bob Dutton of The Kansas City Star doesn’t believe the Kansas City Royals will simply dump either player.

Based on Dutton’s comments, it would appear that a majority of Royals’ fans want the team to trade Hochevar and Francoeur for whatever they can get. However, he doesn’t expect either player to simply be dumped for the sake of making a move or removing them from the roster.

Francoeur posted career-highs in several offensive categories in 2011, hitting .285/.329/.476 with 47 doubles and 20 home runs. However, the 28-year-old came back to earth last season, hitting only .235/.287/.378 with 26 doubles and 16 home runs over 561 at-bats.

Hochevar has made 63 starts for the Royals over the past two seasons despite his ugly ERA of 5.19.

Kansas City dealt top outfield prospect Wil Meyers earlier this offseason so they may not be willing to part with Francoeur, especially for nothing in return. However, with the additions of Ervin Santana and James Shields and the re-signing of Jeremy Guthrie, Hochevar may not be depended on as much this season.

  1. And who exactly would want either of these scrubs? let alone pay for them?

    1. Teams make crazy acquisitions all the time, but neither is likely to get enough interest to be moved.
