The Boston Red Sox are one of four teams interested in
signing free agent outfielder/first baseman Nick Swisher, a player they view as
a fallback option “if they are unable to lure” in slugger Josh Hamilton, reports
Gordon Edes of ESPN Boston.
The Boston Red Sox are one of four teams interested in signing free-agent outfielder/first baseman Nick Swisher, according to a baseball source.
Edes adds that privately the Red Sox have said they’re not
willing to go beyond a three-year commitment for Hamilton. However, the market’s
top bat is unlikely to sign for something less than a four-year deal, as he is
reportedly seeking a six- or seven-year pact.
Edes considers Swisher to be a “more plausible alternative
for the Red Sox. Still, Swisher figures to be pricy himself, as he’s reportedly
seeking five- or six-years at $60 million or more. He reportedly turned down an
offer from the Cleveland Indians that would have paid him $48 million over four
years.
