The Boston Red Sox and Arizona Diamondbacks should pair up
for a trade that would center on slugger Justin Upton, according to Jim Bowden
of ESPN.
Bowden’s proposed trade would send Upton to the Red Sox in
exchange for prospects Xander Bogaerts, Matt Barnes and Brandon Jacobs.
While the Diamondbacks were able to add a young shortstop in
Didi Gregorius when they traded Trevor Bauer to the Cleveland Indians, Arizona
still finds itself in need of a long-term solution at third base. Bogaerts is
currently tabbed as a shortstop, but Bowden notes that there’s belief that the
prospect will eventually slide over to the hot corner.
Barnes would provide a young arm to help fill the void left
by the Bauer deal, while Jacobs would add a “decent outfield prospect” to the
Diamondbacks’ minor league system, according to Bowden.
For the Red Sox, the trade would allow them to enter next
season with a projected outfield of Upton, Jacoby Ellsbury and Shane Victorino,
with Jonny Gomes filling in as a fourth outfielder and part-time designated
hitter. Upton’s presence would also prepare Boston for the eventual loss of
Ellsbury, who’s set to reach free agency after the 2013 campaign.

That's crazy talk. There is no way on Earth that Upton is worth Bogaerts, Bradley, Barnes... I might trade Bradley for Upton but even that would be tough to swallow.
