Even after signing catcher A.J. Pierzynski the Texas Rangers
continue to seek offense this winter, and the team is starting to look into
center fielder Michael Bourn while staying in touch with free agent Cody Ross,
reports Jon Heyman of CBS Sports.
The Rangers, still looking to upgrade their offense after agreeing to terms with veteran catcher A.J. Pierzynski, are staying in touch with free-agent outfielder Cody Ross after having a meeting with him. But Texas is also starting to look into free-agent outfielder Michael Bourn.
Heyman notes that the Rangers appear to be looking into
several ways to improve their offense and pitching staff after losing Josh
Hamilton to the Los Angeles Angels and Mike Napoli to the Boston Red Sox and
failing to land “a trio of big pieces,” including Zack Greinke, Justin Upton
and James Shields.
Ross is said to have received “a lot of interest,” this
offseason from teams including the Philadelphia Phillies, Seattle Mariners,
Boston Red Sox and Cleveland Indians, according to Heyman, who adds that Texas’
“possible run at Bourn seems to be more in the infancy stages.”
