The Los Angeles Dodgers and Boston Red Sox are among the
teams that have expressed interest in Pittsburgh Pirates right-handed closer
Joel Hanrahan, reports Jon Heyman of CBS Sports.
The Dodgers are showing interested in Pirates closer Joel Hanrahan, but they have a little company. The Red Sox are said to have an interest as well.
Beyond Hanrahan, the Dodgers have shown interest in several
late-inning arms this offseason, including Cleveland Indians closer Chris Perez
and Bobby Parnell of the New York Mets. Los Angeles is viewed as a potential
match with the Pirates given the availability of veteran starters Chris Capuano
and Aaron Harang.
While the Pirates are seeking a starting pitcher, the Red
Sox package “might instead feature multiple players, including a young pitcher,”
according to Heyman.
Pittsburgh has been willing to discuss trading Hanrahan
since they re-signed veteran reliever Jason Grilli, who could close for the
club. Some have even reported that the Pirates are pushing to move Hanrahan
this winter.
