The Philadelphia Phillies have reached a two-year, $12
million agreement with free agent right-handed reliever Mike Adams, as reported
by Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports.

Adams new contract with the Phillies includes a $6.5 million
option for the 2015 season that vests if he appears in 60 games in 2013 and 2014
or if he appears in at least 65 in 2014 alone, according to Tim Brown of Yahoo! Sports.
The Phillies entered the offseason targeting a proven setup
man to place in front of closer Jonathan Papelbon. Adams certainly qualifies,
as the 34-year-old late-inning reliever owns a career ERA and WHIP of 2.28 and
1.056 with 9.0 strikeouts and 2.6 walks per nine innings over eight seasons at the
major league level.
Last season for the Texas Rangers Adams posted an ERA and
WHIP of 3.27 and 1.395, while he maintained marks of 1.42 and 0.852 from
2009-11.
Adams is currently rehabbing from Thoracic Outlet Syndrome,
but he is expected to make a full recovery and be ready for the start of spring
training, according to Jayson Stark of ESPN.
