Phillies Rumors: Philadelphia Eyeing Angels OF Vernon Wells

The Philadelphia Phillies have been “shocked by the prices” of free agent outfielders this offseason, so they could turn to trade to fill their void, specifically Vernon Wells of the Los Angeles Angels, reports Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe.

The Phillies have been shocked by the prices for outfielders like Ross, so they could opt for a trade. Wells’ name has popped up, and the Angels would have to eat the majority of the $42 million remaining on his deal. But LA is very motivated to deal the 34-year-old, who needs to be motivated somewhere else.

Cafardo notes that the Angels are “very motivated” to deal Wells, but they would likely need to eat a majority of the $42 million he has remaining on his current contract in order to facilitate a trade.

The Phillies traded Vance Worley and Trevor May to the Minnesota Twins to acquire center fielder Ben Revere, but they continue to seek a veteran outfielder to add to a current mix of John Mayberry Jr., Domonic Brown and Darin Ruf. They had been tied to Josh Hamilton, Cody Ross and Nick Swisher before they signed elsewhere.
