While the San Diego Padres are no closer to signing a
starting pitcher at this point, the club is apparently talking to free agents
Joe Saunders and Brett Myers, according to Bill Center of the Union-Times San
Diego.
No closer to signing a pitcher. The Padres are apparently talking to free agents Joe Saunders and Brett Myers. The Tigers could be losing interest in trading Rick Porcello.
The Twins have been one of the other teams tied to Myers,
while Center says Minnesota, Baltimore and the New York Mets have also
expressed interest in Saunders.
Beyond Saunders and Myers, the Padres are reconsidering a
pursuit of Detroit Tigers starter Rick Porcello. The right-hander reportedly became
available when the Tigers re-signed Anibal Sanchez.
So far this offseason the Padres have been tied to several
starters in their pursuit of additional arms. Before they signed elsewhere, San
Diego expressed interest in Edwin Jackson and Dan Haren.
