The New York Mets should still have their closer ready by spring training. However, Frank Francisco had to undergo surgery on his elbow to remove bone spurs. The 33-year old is signed through next season and is expected to be the Mets' Opening Day closer.
According to Anthony DiComo of MLB.com, Francisco had surgery on his right elbow, but the Mets expect him to be fine for next season.
Frank Francisco underwent surgery to remove a bone spur from his right elbow. #Mets say he will be ready for Spring Training.Francisco was 1-3 with a 5.53 ERA in 2012. He still managed to save 23 games, but he struggled through the season. Francisco battled injury in 2012 as well. He suffered an oblique strain that landed him on the disabled list in August. The injury may have played a role in his numbers, but last season was certainly surprising.
