The Seattle Mariners are “in on everybody” when it comes to
offense, and their list of potential targets includes free agents Josh
Hamilton, Mike Napoli, Nick Swisher and Cody Ross as well as Arizona
Diamondbacks outfielder Justin Upton, reports Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com.
The Mariners are looking all over for offense.
"They're in on everybody,'' a rival GM said.
The Mariners finished last season with one of the worst
offensive units in the game. This offseason the team has announced its plans to
bring in its outfield dimensions in the pitcher-friendly Safeco Field in an
effort to hopefully attract more free agent offense this winter and in the
future.
Heyman adds that the Mariners do have “financial flexibility.”
While he says it’s not likely the team makes a major splash and signs Hamilton,
they are currently not ruling out “anyone who can hit.”
If no one will take their free agent dollars then the
Mariners could look to Arizona for Upton. The Diamondbacks reportedly seek a
young shortstop and starting pitching in exchange for the outfielder, and Seattle
would seem to have the pieces, including SS Nick Franklin and starters Danny
Hultzen and Taijuan Walker, to get a deal done.

Mariners are so cheap, we are going to end up watching the same AA team from last season and maybe worst.
ReplyDeleteThey are apparently set to spend on offense this winter, according to reports. Sounds like you will believe it when you see it. Can't blame you.
DeleteI would not be surprised to see them spend a lot this offseason.
