Now that the Arizona Diamondbacks have filled what they
consider to be their areas of need through yesterday’s three-team trade,
general manager Kevin Towers told reporters, including Ken Rosenthal of FOX
Sports, that outfielder Justin Upton is “highly unlikely” to be traded this
winter.

During yesterday’s trade between the Diamondbacks, Cleveland
Indians and Cincinnati Reds that centered on Shin-Soo Choo, Drew Stubbs and
Trevor Bauer, Arizona acquired shortstop Didi Gregorius, left-hander Tony Sipp
and first baseman Lars Anderson.
While they were shopping Upton throughout the start of the
offseason, the Diamondbacks made it clear that they were seeking a young
shortstop in return. They have now acquired a young shortstop in Gregorius
without dealing Upton, meaning they are more comfortable moving forward with
the talented slugger on their roster.
Several teams, including the Atlanta Braves and Texas
Rangers, have been tied to Upton this winter.
