Cubs Rumors: Chicago Shopping Alfonso Soriano

While the Chicago Cubs have made veteran outfielder Alfonso Soriano available over the several past years, he could finally be on the move this winter, reports Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports.

The Cubs expect to meet with teams regarding Soriano during the upcoming winter meetings in Nashville, according to major-league sources.

Morosi adds that it won’t be easy for the Cubs to ship out Soriano, who owns a full no-trade clause and is due another $36 million over the next two seasons.

However, Soriano proved solid at the plate and at least capable in the outfield last season. Over 561 at-bats the 36-year-old hit .262/.322/.499 with 33 doubles and 32 home runs. The veteran also said last season that he’d be willing to consider a trade to a contender.

Morosi lists the Philadelphia Phillies as an “obvious fit” for Soriano. They are seeking a right-handed-hitting outfielder this winter, and a veteran presence wouldn’t hurt the team’s current crop of projected outfielders, including Darin Ruf, John Mayberry Jr. and Domonic Brown.
