The Toronto Blue Jays are carrying three catchers on their
roster, and they’re interested in trading one, most likely J.P. Arencibia, for
starting pitching, reports Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports.
While the Toronto Blue Jays are open to trading any of their three catchers, there is, well, a catch.
The catch, according to Rosenthal, is that none of the three
Blue Jays catchers, Arencibia, Travis D’Arnaud and John Buck, are going to come
cheap in a trade.
As evidence of this, Toronto has discussed Arencibia with
the Tampa Bay Rays and New York Mets. The Blue Jays were seeking right-hander
Wade Davis from the Rays and Mets left-hander Jon Niese.
Rosenthal confirms that Toronto would like to find more
starting pitching even after acquiring Josh Johnson and Mark Buehrle from the
Miami Marlins. However, he also says the team “seems more inclined to add depth
than find an upgrade” over fifth starter J.A. Happ.
