Astros Rumors: Lance Berkman Houston’s Top Target

As the Houston Astros continue to search for their designated hitter for next season, free agent slugger Lance Berkman remains the team’s top target, reports Jerry Crasnick of ESPN.

Crasnick adds that cost is “still an issue” when it comes to the potential of the Astros bringing Berkman back to Houston.

With the Astros joining the American League West and leaving the league in which pitcher’s fill a role in the regular batting lineup, the club needs to add a DH this winter. However, Houston only has so much money to work with as we’ve seen over the last few weeks.

The Chicago Cubs approached the Astros regarding outfielder and potential DH Alfonso Soriano. However, Houston couldn’t afford the veteran slugger even with the Cubs picking up a large portion of his salary.

Berkman spent 12 seasons with the Astros, hitting .296/.410/.549 while being named to five All-Star games.
