Depending on who you believe, the Houston Astros may be close to signing veteran free agent Jose Lopez - or they may not. According to a press conference Lopez held in Venezuela, he said he will be traveling to Houston for a meeting. However, Jon Heyman of CBS Sports says there is nothing going on, and the Astros are not close to a deal.
There's nothing going on with jose lopez and astros. I only menton it because there was a story suggesting there was deal

Lopez said in his press conference that nothing was firm, but there was a clear indication that a deal could get done (courtesy of MLB Trade Rumors).
"On December 26th I'm going to fly to Houston,"said Lopez at a press conference. "Nothing is firm yet, but I might have to stop playing (in the Venezuelan winter leagues). Everything depends on the physical exams."Lopez is 29 years old but he has already played nine Major League seasons. He is a career .262/.292/.395 hitter. In 2006, Lopez made an All-Star appearance with the Seattle Mariners. He hit .282/.319/.405 that seasons.
Lopez has not played more than 82 games in a season since 2010. He played 150 in 2010, but he suffered a finger injury that ended his season, and it ended his time in Seattle. Lopez then played for the Indians and the White Sox. He hit just .246/.270/.356 last season.
