Angels Rumors: LA Still Pursuing Pitching

The Los Angeles Angels are continuing their search for starting pitching and are considering filling their void with a “mid-level free agent” rather than trading for an arm, reports Jim Bowden of ESPN.

So far this offseason Los Angeles’ rotation has seen significant turnover. The Angels traded Ervin Santana to the Kansas City Royals, declined Dan Haren’s option for 2013 and watched Zack Greinke sign with the other Los Angeles club.

In an effort to replace the trio of arms, the Angels have acquired Tommy Hanson from the Atlanta Braves and signed free agent right-hander Joe Blanton. Hanson and Blanton will be paired with Jered Weaver and C.J. Wilson.

The Angels were tied to Mets right-hander R.A. Dickey before New York reached an agreement with the Toronto Blue Jays. However, Bowden hints at Los Angeles turning away from the trade market and to free agency to find their next pitcher.

Current mid-level options could consist of Joe Saunders, Brett Myers, Carl Pavano, Francisco Liriano, Shaun Marcum and Jeff Karstens, among others.
