Baseball executives see free agent Zack Greinke, who’s drawn
interest from the Los Angeles Angels, Los Angeles Dodgers, Texas Rangers and
Washington Nationals, commanding a contract for at least six years and perhaps
as much as $25 million per season, reports Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com.
Baseball executives see star free-agent right-hander Zack Greinke landing a deal for at least six years and perhaps as much as $25 million a year, which could bring Greinke's total haul to $150 million.
If Greinke is able to land such a deal, it would be the
largest contract signed by a right-handed starting pitcher, topping the
six-year $127.5 million extension Matt Cain signed with the San Francisco
Giants last spring.
The Angels are viewed by many as the favorite to re-sign
Greinke, as they are concentrating their efforts on the right-hander. However, “Angels
people have seen the Dodgers as their biggest threat,” according to Heyman.
Along with the Dodgers, the Angels could face competition
from their American League West rival, the Rangers, who are also reportedly
pursuing Greinke.
