While left-hander Andy Pettitte hasn’t reached a deal with
the New York Yankees yet, he “has committed to pitch next year,” reports Mark
Feinsand the New York Daily News.
Update: Pettitte "has committed to playing next year," a source said. No deal has been reached yet, however.

There were reports yesterday that the Yankees were nearing
an agreement with Pettitte. While nothing was confirmed, the amount of the
pending deal was reportedly just over $10 million for 2013.
However, Feinsand says sides are not nearing an agreement.
Still, if Pettitte has committed to pitch in 2013 all signs would point to him
returning with the Yankees, meaning it’s likely just a matter of time before a
new contract is announced.
Pettitte returned to baseball last season, signing with New
York in March. He was limited to 12 starts due to injury, but he was effective
when he did make it to the mound. The 40-year-old posted an ERA and WHIP of
2.87 and 1.142 over 75 1/3 innings and owns a career ERA of 3.86 over 17
seasons at the major league level.
