White Sox Rumors: Chicago Hopes to Trade Gavin Floyd

The Chicago White Sox are targeting a “lower-end” starting pitcher at the right price this winter that would provide them the flexibility to trade right-hander Gavin Floyd, reports Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports.

Floyd is no stranger to the trade market, as his name has come up year after year in rumors. The 29-year-old is now entering the final year of his current contract, as he’s set to earn $9.5 million in 2013.

Given they already have a starting rotation that boasts more than capable pitchers such as Jake Peavy, Chris Sale and John Danks, the White Sox are hoping to move Floyd to presumably free up cap space to spend filling other areas of need on the team.

Last season with the White Sox Floyd posted an ERA and WHIP of 4.29 and 1.363. Over nine seasons at the major league level he’s maintained an ERA and WHIP of 4.46 and 1.332.
