The Detroit Tigers, New York Yankees and Texas Rangers are
among the teams interested in free agent outfielder Torii Hunter, who’s
expected to make a decision on where he’ll play next season in the next two
weeks, according to Mark Saxon of ESPNLosAngeles.com.
Free agent outfielder Torii Hunter told MLB Network on Monday morning that he's going to wrap up a decision about where to sign quickly, and a source indicated that the timeframe is about two weeks.
Yesterday morning Danny Knobler of CBSSports.com reported of
the Tigers and Rangers interest in Hunter. Detroit apparently views the
outfielder as a perfect fit, while Texas sees him as a potential replacement
for Josh Hamilton, who’s expected to sign elsewhere this winter.
Saxon later added the timeframe in which Hunter will make
his decision, noting that the Yankees have shown “serious interest.” New York
has a void in the outfield as free agent Nick Swisher is not expected to
return.
Hunter has made it clear that his top priority this
offseason is signing with a team that can offer him an opportunity to win his
first World Series. It’s also been reported that he’s leaning toward signing
with an American League team.
