The Boston Red Sox should seriously look into trading center
fielder Jacoby Ellsbury given their disappointing 2012 season and the many
needs the team currently has to fill, reports Michael Silverman of the Boston
Herald.
While they aren’t likely to admit it, Silverman says the Red
Sox are in a sort of “rebuilding mode” this winter. They still have a talented
core of players, but he implores them to steer clear of the expensive free
agent signings that took them down the path they’ve been on for the past two
seasons.
Ellsbury could be someone to extend and build the team
around. However, agreeing to a new contract with the center fielder is easier
said than done given his inconsistent track record.
In 2011 Ellsbury was one of the game’s best players,
garnering American League MVP votes. Last season he was limited by injuries to
303 at-bats and only managed an OPS of .682.
Because the team and Ellsbury’s representation are unlikely
to agree on an extension and because the 29-year-old will hit the open market
after the 2013 season, Silverman believes this winter is the time for the Red
Sox to make a trade.

will you stop with this bullshit on trading Jacoby. It makes no swense whatsoever to trade him.
ReplyDeleteObviously, you cannot see the overall big picture. Trading him IS the right thing to do. Remember, Scott Boras is his agent. He will not resign with Boston. Trade him now and get value in return or risk loosing him for a draft pick. He also has proven he has a hard time staying healthy. Pay someone big bucks for being on the DL as often as he is makes no sense. Is this simple enough for you to understand? Your post was bullshit lame. No backup to your statement. Are you in high school or just really anal?
DeleteThe DL issue would be the biggest concern I have with Ellsbury, and you are completely right about the issues with Boras. I question whether the Red Sox would even give Ellsbury a qualifying offer when he is due to hit free agency, so they may not even get a draft pick back for him.
DeleteTalk to Michael Silverman about that. He's the source of this rumor.
ReplyDeleteCleveland probably would take him - Sizemore is injured worse and more often, and Francona knows JacEll very well.
ReplyDeleteCleveland would actually be a really nice fit. Think they can be good next season or do you think they need some time?
