Red Sox Rumors: Nick Swisher on Boston’s Radar

The Boston Red Sox have free agent outfielder Nick Swisher “on their radar,” reports George A. King III of The New York Post.

According to a person with knowledge of the situation the Red Sox have an interest in the switch-hitting right fielder who can also handle first base.

Even after signing veteran Jonny Gomes to a two-year contract, the Red Sox remain in the market for another outfielder, according to reports. Gomes is likely to be a platoon option for Boston, who lost two outfielders last season as Cody Ross hit the open market and they traded Carl Crawford to the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Last season for the Yankees Swisher hit .272/.364/.473 with 36 doubles and 24 home runs. The 31-year-old owns a career line of .256/.361/.467 over nine seasons and is expected to command a free agent contract somewhere in the four-year, $60 million range.
