Gomes is likely to be a platoon option for Boston, who lost two outfielders last season as Cody Ross hit the open market and they traded Carl Crawford to the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Last season for the Yankees Swisher hit .272/.364/.473 with 36 doubles and 24 home runs. The 31-year-old owns a career line of .256/.361/.467 over nine seasons and is expected to command a free agent contract somewhere in the four-year, $60 million range.
