Red Sox Rumors: Negotiations Ongoing Between Nick Swisher, Boston

The Boston Red Sox have had ongoing negotiations with free agent outfielder Nick Swisher, reports Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe.

The Red Sox have had ongoing negotiations with Swisher and his agents.

Boston signed free agent outfielder Jonny Gomes earlier this offseason, but they continue to be in the market for another as they view the veteran as a platoon player. Boston lost two outfielders in the past few months, as they traded Carl Crawford to the Los Angeles Dodgers and Cody Ross hit the open market at the end of the season.

Cafardo notes that Swisher would be “more than adequate” as a replacement for Ross. He’s proven capable in the American League East as a member of the New York Yankees over the past several years, and the 32-year-old owns a career line of .256/.361/.467 over nine seasons in the majors.

  1. Why don't the Sox want Cody Ross?

    1. My feelin is the Red Sox think Ross wants more than what they feel he's worth on the field. Of course this could be true of Swisher as well.

  2. I don't think they're against bringing him back, just keeping their options open. Most out there view Swisher as an upgrade for Ross, so that may be why they are focusing on him for the time being. Would you rather have Ross over Swisher?
