Yesterday we learned that catcher/first baseman Mike Napoli
was the Boston Red Sox “No. 1 target,” but friends of free agent Cody Ross
believe the team is in the lead in negotiations for the outfielder, reports
Buster Olney of ESPN.
Friends of Cody Ross believe BOS is in the lead in his neg. on 3-year deal. But sources say there haven't been new talks in last few days.

Ross is reportedly seeking a three-year contract this
winter, and Olney notes that the Red Sox are believed to be negotiating a
three-year pact with Ross. However, he adds that there haven’t been new talks in
the last few days.
At the end of last season, Ross made it clear that he would
be interested in re-signing with the Red Sox. While winning was said to be his
priority, there’s no doubt he experienced success calling Fenway Park home and
seemed to enjoy his first season in Boston.
The Red Sox also expressed interest in retaining Ross, but
they’ve checked in on other free agents as well, including Napoli and
outfielder Nick Swisher.
