In another sign that outfielder Josh Hamilton isn’t likely to
return, the Texas Rangers are reportedly focusing on free agent right-hander
Zack Greinke, reports Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com.
The Rangers have joined the fray for Zack Greinke in another sign that superstar outfielder Josh Hamilton’s days in Texas are numbered.
While the Los Angeles Angels are viewed as the favorite to
sign Greinke this winter, according to Heyman, the Rangers and Los Angeles
Dodgers figure to offer the Halos competition for the highly coveted
right-hander. Heyman adds that the Washington Nationals could also get in on
the Greinke sweepstakes.
The Rangers do have interest in retaining Hamilton, but at
this point they are concentrating their efforts on Greinke while letting the
free agent outfielder to look elsewhere. Heyman notes that for Hamilton to
re-sign with the Rangers two things might have to happen; the team misses out
on Greinke and the slugger doesn’t find much of an offer elsewhere.
