Philadelphia Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. is
aggressively pursuing an answer to the team’s void in center field this
offseason, reports Buster Olney of ESPN, and the club has been tied to free
agents Michael Bourn and B.J. Upton.
The Phillies have been in the market for a center fielder
since they traded veteran outfielder Shane Victorino to the Los Angeles Dodgers
this summer.
Amaro is known as a GM that likes act quickly, and he could
do exactly that this winter when it comes to Bourn or Upton. Bourn is
reportedly the team’s primary target, but they have also been tied to Upton.
Along with Victorino, the Phillies also traded outfielder
Hunter Pence this summer. Even if they sign a center fielder quickly, they
could still be in the market for another outfielder depending on their belief
in internal options such as John Mayberry Jr. and Kevin Frandsen.
