Agents and executives who have spoken to the Philadelphia
Phillies say the team has put everything else on hold until they sign a center
fielder, and among their targets are free agents B.J. Upton and Michael Bourn,
reports Matt Gelb of philly.com.
Numerous agents and executives who have spoken with the Phillies say everything else is on hold until they sign a centerfielder.
While general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. has preached patience
this offseason, according to Gelb, he “will take action” if there is a player
he truly covets. He did this last offseason in the case of closer Jonathan
Papelbon.
This player he acts on could be Upton, who has already
visited with the team. However, Philadelphia could be receiving competition
from fellow National League East teams when it comes to Upton and Bourn,
including the Washington Nationals and Atlanta Braves.
