Free agent outfielder Cody Ross has received “most of his
serious interest” from the Boston Red Sox, Philadelphia Phillies, Detroit
Tigers and Seattle Mariners, reports Jim Bowden of ESPN.

Now that the Tigers have signed fellow free agent outfielder
Torii Hunter it’s probably safe to check them off the list of teams targeting
Ross.
However, the Red Sox, Phillies and Mariners all appear to be
in the market for outfielders and offense.
The Phillies could use at least one, if not two, outfielders
this winter after trading away Hunter Pence and Shane Victorino last summer. Philadelphia has been tied to center fielders, such as B.J. Upton and Michael Bourn, but they’re
also reportedly in on corner outfielders such as Ross and former Texas Rangers
slugger Josh Hamilton.
The Mariners, who owned one of the league’s worst offenses
last season, are said to be in the market for bats. They’ve been considered one
of the teams to watch for Hamilton, but if his asking price is driven up too
much they could turn to a cheaper alternative such as Ross.
Boston, Ross’ former club, has interest in re-signing the
31-year-old. For his part, Ross has said that he’d be willing to return to the
Red Sox, though his main objective is signing with a team that gives him an
opportunity to win.
