The raging debate about whether Miguel Cabrera was the right pick for the American League MVP or not will live on throughout the offseason.  Mike Trout's incredible season for the Los Angeles Angels this past season makes the debate a valid one, a fun one, and a passionate one.  But ultimately, Cabrera is the 2012 AL MVP.  Buster Posey's selection is far more difficult to argue.  After missing most of the 2011 season with his horrific leg injury, Posey came back stronger this season and won the National League MVP.

Cabrera was the first player to win the Triple Crown since 1967.  That alone earned him plenty of votes, but Cabrera did so on a team that led the American League Central most of the year.  They also made it to the World Series.  However, Cabrera's selection will be endlessly questions.  Mike Trout had a rookie season for the ages - perhaps the best rookie season ever.  Trout beat Cabrera in WAR by 3.8. Trout finished over 10 WAR in what was an incredible saber-centric performance.  Cabrera, though, did his damage while also playing a new position.  He played third base for the first time for a full season after the Tigers signed Prince Fielder to play first base.

Posey won the NL Comeback Player of the Year award as well.  I think he appreciates the comeback award, but he'd much rather have the MVP.  And the city of San Francisco has now officially been spoiled.  They have two of the last three World Series, a perfect game, two-time Cy Young Award winner Tim Lincecum, and now Buster Posey who was Rookie of the Year in 2010 and is now MVP.

If the baseball community can get past their rage in regards to what is going on in South Beach, they will remember this past season was a great one.  So many story lines, so many great players.  The MVP awards are simply a culmination of the 2012 season.
