Tim Byrdak is veteran.  He's had a long career, so no one would fault him if he were to retire after his injury-plagued 2012 campaign.  However, it doesn't seem Byrdak is ready to do so.  At least not yet.  Byrdak is going to consult with his doctor to see where he is post-surgery.

According to Adam Rubin of ESPN New York, Byrdak, who is a player representative, will be in New York for meetings.  But he will also see his doctor.

Byrdak underwent shoulder and knee surgery in September.  He only appeared in just 56 games in 2012.  It was the lowest total since 2007 for the long-time reliever.  The injuries have put a question mark on Byrdak's ability to contribute in 2013.  At 39 years old, there may not be enough interest for him to continue his career.  However, this meeting with his doctor will give him something more to go on.

Byrdak has pitched in the Majors for 11 seasons.  He has a career 4.30 ERA in his time with the Kansas City Royals, the Baltimore Orioles, the Detroit Tigers, the Houston Astros, and the Mets.
