Mariners Rumors: Seattle Unlikely to Sign Josh Hamilton

The Seattle Mariners have been one of the teams tied to free agent outfielder Josh Hamilton, but general manager Jack Zduriencik said Friday he doesn’t see the club being big players in pursuit of the market’s top slugger, reports Greg Johns of MLB.com.

Although the Mariners plan to pursue offensive upgrades this offseason, general manager Jack Zduriencik said Friday he doesn't see Seattle being big players in the pursuit of free-agent slugger Josh Hamilton.

While Zduriencik didn’t slam the door on the possibility of signing Hamilton, he did say the potential commitment it will require to ink the free agent may “surpass” where the Mariners are going to be. He added that it would be unwise for the team to put all of its eggs in Hamilton’s basket, as “some of these things drag out and if you’re sitting there waiting on one chip, other chips in front of you might go away and you end up with nothing.”

The Mariners are known to be in the market for offense this winter, but it doesn’t appear that they’ll be adding Hamilton.

  1. It would be a waste to sign Hamilton, we need more than one guy that can be pitched around to improve the offense.

  2. Can't say I disagree. Seattle isn't the type of team that would seem to benefit from signing Hamilton.
