There has been a “good-sized market” for free agent corner
infielder Kevin Youkilis so far this offseason, according to his agent, and the
teams that have checked in on the slugger include the Philadelphia Phillies,
Los Angeles Dodgers and Cleveland Indians, reports Nick Cafardo of the Boston
Globe.
Good-sized market so far for Youkilis, at both third and first base, according to his agent, Joe Bick.
Beyond the Phillies, Dodgers and Indians, the Arizona
Diamondbacks have also checked in on Youkilis, but general manager Kevin Towers
indicated that they “will likely not be involved,” according to Cafardo.
The Indians are interested in using Youkilis at first base,
while the Phillies and Dodgers are considering him at third base. Cafardo notes
that this would be a “back-burner option” for the Dodgers, as they have at
least one in-house candidate to man the hot corner in Luis Cruz.
While Youkilis has started most of his games at third base
over the past two seasons, he manned first base regularly for the Boston Red
Sox prior to 2011.
