Free agent third baseman Kevin Youkilis is drawing interest
from several teams, including the Philadelphia Phillies, Los Angeles Dodgers,
Cleveland Indians, Miami Marlins and Seattle Mariners, reports Jon Paul Morosi
of FOX Sports.
The Indians, Phillies and Dodgers are looking to upgrade their production at third base and have shown preliminary interest in Youkilis, according to major-league sources. The Mariners and Marlins — the majors’ two worst teams this year in first-base production — have checked in on Youkilis, as well.
Morosi adds that the Chicago White Sox also have interest in
re-signing Youkilis. The White Sox acquired him from the Boston Red Sox last
season.
Over 438 at-bats with the Red Sox and White Sox Youkilis hit
.235/.336/.409 with 15 doubles and 19 home runs. He was far more productive
after joining Chicago, hitting .236/.346/.425.
Youkilis owns a career line of .283/.384/.482 over nine
seasons at the major league level.
