Josh Hamilton Rumors: Phillies May Be Interested

Sick of the Josh Hamilton rumors yet?  Well, too bad.  They're going to keep coming, and only get more frenetic.  He is the top prize of the 2012 offseason, but teams are clearly concerned about the outfielder's durability.  There have been numerous teams linked to Hamilton interest, now the Philadelphia Phillies are one of them.

According to Buster Olney of ESPN, the Phillies are looking at their outfield options this offseason, and Hamilton may be a possibility.

Hamilton was on pace for another MVP-type season early in the 2012 year, but he cooled off considerably as nagging injuries started to catch up to him.  Overall, Hamilton hit .285/.354/.577.  He did club a career-high 43 home runs.  He made his fifth-straight All-Star team this past season.

Although Hamilton played in the second-most games of his career in 2012, but teams see his injury history, and they worry.  And fairly so.  Hamilton has a propensity to find injuries.  He plays hard, he takes risk, and as a side effect, he gets injured.  Sometimes, like this season, he battles injuries and conditions that have nothing to do with the game.  So teams are understandably worries.

As Olney reports, the Phillies would not want to sign Hamilton to a deal that was so long that severe injuries could leave them holding the bag.  Hamilton is looking for a seven-year deal, but it is unlikely that any team will go that long.  Most teams seems to be interested in a three to five year deal.
