The Atlanta Braves are intrigued in free agent outfielder
Josh Hamilton, and they’ve been discussing if they’re a fit for the slugger,
reports Danny Knobler of CBSSports.com.
Is Josh Hamilton a fit for the Braves?
If you're asking, you're not alone. The Braves have been asking themselves the same question, according to sources.
Knobler notes that Hamilton intrigues the Braves because
Chipper Jones’ retirement and the fact that they are likely to lose Michael
Bourn in free agency. The team needs to boost their offense, and Hamilton is
the top free agent bat available.
However, beyond the usual concerns surrounding Hamilton’s
off-the-field and injury concerns, Atlanta could also be turned off by the fact
that Hamilton is a left-handed hitter. The Braves already have several lefties
in the middle of their order, including Jason Heyward, Freddie Freeman and
Brian McCann.
While they are discussing the merit of pursuing Hamilton
internally, Knobler believes their concerns mixed with the “strict budget” they
operate under will prevent them from spending big on the former MVP this
winter.
