Giants Rumors: Angel Pagan, Marco Scutaro

While the San Francisco Giants are unsure they’re willing to commit what it will take to re-sign center fielder Angel Pagan this winter, they are confident they’ll be able to bring back second baseman Marco Scutaro, reports Buster Olney of ESPN.

The Giants acquired Pagan from the Mets last winter, and the 31-year-old put together an impressive season in his first year with San Francisco. Over 154 games he hit .288/.338/.440 with 38 doubles, 15 triples, eight home runs and 29 stolen bases in 36 attempts.

This has caused Pagan’s free agent asking price to increase, and it’s no longer clear if he’ll fit into the Giants’ long-term plans. San Francisco is receiving competition for the speedster, as several teams, including the Philadelphia Phillies, Atlanta Braves and Washington Nationals, are in the market for a center fielder this offseason.

The Giants acquired Scutaro from the Colorado Rockies last season and the veteran became one of the team’s most consistent hitters over the second half of the year. The 37-year-old hit .362/.385/.473 with 16 doubles and three home runs over 243 at-bats after joining the Giants.
