Los Angeles has made it clear that it has money to spend
this offseason. The Dodgers are targeting starting pitchers to bolster their
rotation, as they’ve also been tied to right-hander Zack Greinke, and Lohse is
one of the top second-tier arms available on the open market.
The 34-year-old quietly put together an extremely impressive
2012 campaign with the St. Louis Cardinals. Over 33 starts spanning 211 innings
the right-hander posted an ERA and WHIP of 2.86 and 1.090. This solid season garnered
him Cy Young consideration.
In 12 seasons at the major league level Lohse has maintained
an ERA and WHIP of 4.45 and 1.369 with 5.6 strikeouts and 2.6 walks per nine innings.
Over his last five years with the Cardinals he’s posted an ERA and WHIP of 3.90
and 1.279.
