Brandon McCarthy to Start Throwing in December

After passing his latest tests to return from a fractured skull suffered late into the 2012 season, right-hander Brandon McCarthy is expected to resume throwing in December, reports Jeff Passan of Yahoo! Sports.

After passing his latest tests to return from a gruesome comebacker, right-hander Brandon McCarthy is expected to start throwing in December.

While pitching for the Oakland Athletics last season McCarthy was struck in the head by a line drive. It not only ended his season but endangered his life.

However, while his head injury was life threatening, prospective suitors are more concerned with McCarthy’s “troublesome shoulder,” according to Passan. McCarthy has been sidelined multiple times throughout his career due to shoulder injuries, including several stretches last season.

After not pitching at the major league level during the 2010 season, McCarthy put together two solid years with the A’s. He maintained an ERA of 3.29 over 43 starts in 2011-12 and the 29-year-old owns a career ERA of 4.02.
