Blue Jays Rumors: Toronto Targeting One More Starting Pitcher

The Toronto Blue Jays added a pair of frontline starting pitchers, Josh Johnson and Mark Buehrle, in their blockbuster trade with the Miami Marlins this week, but the team still want one more starter, reports Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports.

While the Blue Jays have other areas of need on their roster, including left field, general manager Alex Anthopoulos was reportedly focused on the team’s starting rotation earlier in the week. He was able to address this in a big way by acquiring Buerhle and Johnson from the Marlins.

Still, the Blue Jays need, and want, another starting pitcher. But who will Toronto target?

Anthopoulos has a history of addressing his needs via the trade market rather than spending big on free agents. Believe it or not, the $9 million AA spent on Maicer Izturis earlier this offseason was the largest total contract he’s signed a free agent to.

Given his track record, I would guess that the Blue Jays will either swing another trade for a proven starter or sign a low-cost free agent.
