Astros Rumors: Jed Lowrie Drawing Interest

Houston Astros shortstop Jed Lowrie has drawn interest from several teams this offseason, reports Buster Olney of ESPN, who adds that the club isn’t willing to move him unless they are “completely overwhelmed.”

The interest in Lowrie comes as no surprise given the lack of shortstops available this winter. For this reason, it also makes sense that the Astros would ask to be overwhelmed in return for Lowrie.

Houston acquired Lowrie last offseason along with Kyle Weiland in the trade that sent Mark Melancon to the Boston Red Sox.

After getting off to a hot start at the beginning of the 2012 campaign, Lowrie was sidelined due to injury before returning for the last month of the regular season. He wasn’t the same player once he returned, but he still ended the season with a respectable line of .244/.331/.438 with 18 doubles and 16 home runs.
