The San Francisco Giants took a 1-0 lead in the World Series last night, and they did so in dominant fashion. They knocked around the two-time Cy Young award-winner Justin Verlander, and won 8-3. But it's just game one. The Tigers will throw the surprisingly talented Doug Fister at the Giants today. The Giants will counter with Madison Bumgarner.
There are no real injury concerns holding players back in this series. Max Scherzer seems to be healthy and will pitch Game Four. Marco Scuataro looks like his old self and just recently won the National League Championship Series MVP. These teams should be at as close to full health as a team can be in October.
As a side note, the Giants will not use Melky Cabrera in the World Series. Cabrera was suspended for violating the baseball's drug policy, but he was reinstated during the NLCS. The Giants did not use him during the NLCS either.
Game Two starts tonight at 8:00 PM EST.
