People familiar with the situation tell Jon Heyman of
CBSSports.com that there’s “no way” the San Francisco Giants will trade
right-hander Tim Lincecum this offseason.
"No way he'll be traded. Do you see how the fans respond to him?'' one person connected to the Giants said.
Lincecum’s struggles have been well documented this season,
and it’s unclear if they’re due to mechanical issues or an undisclosed injury.
There have been rumors that the team could look to trade or at least shop him
this winter, but Heyman believes a move to the bullpen may be more logical for
the Giants.
Lincecum has pitched effectively out of the bullpen this
postseason, as he wasn’t tabbed as one of the Giants four starting pitchers to
be used in the World Series.
It’s been unusual not to see the two-time Cy Young winner on
the mound throughout the postseason, but at this point San Francisco expects
the 28-year-old to be part of their starting rotation next season.
