Bartolo Colon Hit in the Face by a Line Drive

Bartolo Colon, who was recently suspended by Major League Baseball for using performance enhancing drugs, was hit by a come-backer while pitching yesterday.  Colon is pitching in the Dominican Winter League and was hit in the face by a line drive back up the middle.  The video has made its way to Youtube, and it's a scary scene.  However, it appears Colon will be alright.

Scott Boeck of USA Today says Colon was able to walk off the field under his own power but was taking to the hospital for tests.  Boeck went on to say that Major League Baseball is planning to discuss the topic of pitcher safety at this year's winter meetings.  One proposed idea is a liner to go inside the pitcher's cap to help shield the skull from impact.

Colon, 39, pitched most of last season for the Oakland Athletics.  He was having a successful season, but was ultimately suspended 50 games for PED-use.  The former Cy Young Award winner was not eligible for the postseason, and the A's lost the ALDS in five games.

This past season, Colon went 10-9 with a 3.43 ERA.  He is a free agent this offseason, but team will likely be wary of signing him because of age and his connection to drugs.
