Yankees Injury News: Brett Gardner, Alex Rodriguez, Mark Teixeira

The New York Yankees have several high-profile veteran players banged up as the regular season comes to an end.  Today’s injury updates involve outfielder Brett Gardner, third baseman Alex Rodriguez and first baseman Mark Teixeira.

  • Rodriguez fouled a ball off his foot during his final at-bat Tuesday night and was held out of New York’s lineup Wednesday.  The foot stiffened up following Tuesday’s game and was sore Wednesday morning, but the slugger is hoping it’s just aone-day issue.
  • While Rodriguez should be back in the Yankees’ lineup sooner than later, it’s not clear when Teixeira will rejoin the club.  The first baseman continues to rehab his calfinjury in Tampa.
  • New York was without Rodriguez and Teixeira last night, but Gardner was able to make his first appearance since April in the Yankees 8-2 win against the Minnesota Twins.  The 29-year-old did not register an at-bat, but he did take the field as a defensive replacement in the 9th inning.

    1. I think that's what the Yankees are hoping as well, but it doesn't seem like anyone's too certain of a timeframe for his return.

    2. And to echo that, I think Teixeira is still worried about injuring himself further. That being said though, he's got to tough it out for postseason play.

  2. I think that A-Rod is never going to be the player that he was without the steroids. Look at how he performs since he got caught. He'll probably never catch up to Bonds in homers either. The biggest mistake that the Yankees ever made....is the long term signing of A-Rod. His contract will prevent the Yankees from being a Great Ball Team until he is gone. You can't even trade him, cause no one would take him.And to think that the Yankees will lose some of the players that really Love being Yankees due to A-Rod's contract. Ok, now to Texeira , this guy just refuses to be a great hitter. All he ever needed to do is lay down a few bunts to third base and teans would not be so quick to do that shift that is just killing his BA. Look at most of his outs. He hits right into the shift. He, no doubt could be a great hitter...He REFUSES!!

    1. I wonder about ARod and injuries. I don't know that he is the type to hide injuries and play through them (like Jeter would), but often times players get injured easier after they stop taking steroids.
